Becky Chubb- Psychiatry Registrar

UK based psychiatry registrar Becky Chubb was bowled over by New Zealand and the MidCentral Health welcome. “I have never been made to feel more welcome,” she says.

From the moment she stepped off the bus, Becky says she was treated with real respect and as a real person - who has a life. “I wish I had known what a friendly welcome I would receive as I would not have worried so much.”

Becky loved her first three month placement as an SHO in STAR 2 – the rehabilitation ward for patients over 65 - “They are an all round great team to work for,” she says. “I learnt a lot from a brilliant consultant who had a lot of time for teaching.” Becky also participated in the acute on call roster for General Medicine.

“I have more autonomy then I have ever had before,” she says of her current post as psychiatry registrar. “It’s a good balance between having the freedom and confidence to formulate my own views and opinions regarding patients, but at the same time having the knowledge that I have other more experienced registrars and consultants to ask whenever I feel out of my depth.”

Speaking of her post at Palmerston North Hospital, "On the beach in 30 minutes or ski-ing in two hours…I can live in this beautiful location with plenty of disposable income for the multitude of activities you can do from here.”
