Name: Callum Dunsmore
Job: Dentist
I help people to maintain a healthy mouth.
Why did you choose to work in health?
The desire to help people was my main attraction to the health sector.
Do you have any advice for high school students interested in becoming a Dentist?
I’d recommend chatting to a Dentist before you decide on it as a career. We have local students helping out at the clinic during careers week, that's a good way of seeing what it is like 'behind the scenes'.
What's been your most memorable experience on the job?
I always enjoy taking crooked or discoloured teeth and making them look nice! It's very satisfying.
What are some of the challenges of working in your role?
Dealing with a patient’s fear of the dentist due to previous experience is possibly the most constant challenge I face.
What subjects would you recommend taking in high school?
Biology and chemistry would be the most important subjects at high school if you want to become a dentist. A good understanding of these subjects will help you a lot when you get to university.

What's a typical day like for you?
My typical day involves seeing patients all day. I will do a range of procedures which include: tooth extractions, filling cavities, cleaning and promoting good oral hygiene. At the end of the day I will cover all administrative tasks, which includes updating all patient’s notes and preparing for the next day.
