Hi,
I would like some clarification regarding the transition from a medical student to a house officer in NZ. I will be attending medical school in NZ as an international student. After medical school, I have a desire to get my medical training in NZ as well. I have read that international students graduating from a NZ medical school have difficulty entering into the ACE process and becoming a 1st year house officer immediately after medical school due to immigration laws. Is this true? If so, do you know what options such graduates have until they are able get a position? Thank you for your help. |

Hi,
NZ Graduates who are not permanent residents/citizens of Australia or NZ are in category 4/6 for selection for ACE, which is quite good. In 2011 26/48 international NZ Graduates gained positions through ACE.
If unsuccessful, international graduates could apply directly to DHB's for the 2nd quarter intake which begins on 25 February 2013.
Kind regards, Healthcareers |
