Kiwi physiotherapist’s ingenuity meant All White vice-captain was able to help keep the NZ team unbeaten in Johannesburg.
Just before the World Cup, midfielder Tim Brown fractured his right shoulder and it was unclear whether of not he would be able to play in the World Cup.
But with the help of an expert surgeon and some physiotherapy know-how, Brown was able to take the field.
Brown had three screws inserted into his shoulder to provide stability and then his surgeon referred him on for physiotherapy.
In order to provide support to the shoulder, physiotherapist Margie Olds helped to design a brace which compressed the skin and muscles around Brown’s shoulder, restricted motion and allowed healing to occur.
The lightweight design was even able to withstand the heat of a football game.
If you are football, rugby, netball, snowboarding or any sport mad, a career in health could create opportunities for you to work with top sports people.
