Burns injuries

At 24 years of age, Davinia Turrell received horrific burns during the July 7 terror attacks in London.

The ‘ball of fire’ created by the bomb at Edgware Road tube station left one side of her face badly burned. But 5 years later, with the help of experts from London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, she has made a remarkable recovery and now has no visible scarring.

Treating burns effectively requires the combined efforts of a dedicated team of health professionals.

You have probably heard about all the reconstructive surgery which is often required following severe burns. But did you know about the specialist nursing team that is involved in day-to-day care and education? What about the fact that physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, play therapists, dietitians, social workers and even school teachers all play a vital role in a burns victim’s recovery?

There is always more to rehabilitation than you initially think, so if you can see yourself stepping up and becoming part of such a team, check out our career profiles for more information.
